The Whole Sweep of Scripture - NT Wright
How
do you read the Bible? “Frequently and thoroughly” was Wright’s basic yet
potent answer.
I think it was important for me to be reminded that the Bible was not intended to be read in 10-verse chunks. Using Wright’s analogy, each book in Scripture was intended to be enjoyed the same way you would be swept away by a symphony. You’re supposed to be taken for a wild ride through all of the different movements.

We
must honor God’s Word by receiving it as it is. A verse or series of verses is
a window through which you’re looking at the whole picture. We must keep the
big picture in mind when we read the Bible, and we must be careful not to fall into
the dangerous practice of selectively embracing verses out of context. For me,
this means I need to push through and read parts of books that might not be
considered the most popular or interesting.
