Acts 3
There was a man who was lame from birth, begging for money
at the temple gate everyday. Peter and John see him as they’re walking up to
the temple, and Peter tells him to get up and walk.
-This man had this condition all his life, just like I’ve
had the same sins and issues all my life. I got accustomed to it, I accepted
it, and it became a fact of life. This man didn’t know what it was like to be
able to walk. He had a set routine and lifestyle, and he knew his place in that
culture. This is like me living out a story of oppression.
-“Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give
you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” God wants to give me
things that are not just better than what I ask for, but simply beyond my
imagination. He’s a good father, and His thoughts and ways are higher than
mine.
-The man obeyed Peter’s command to walk. I think this detail
can be easily overlooked, but I think it took him a lot of courage and faith to
get up out of his seat. He actually had to take action. He was leaving behind
the only thing that he knew how to do all his life. And he trusted that Jesus’s
power and authority could really heal him and transform him. He was willing to
take that chance. Could I do the same? Do I really believe that I can be healed,
too?
-After he got up, he praised God. This part really touched
me. I’ve forgotten about so many things that God has done for me. As the man
praised God, people recognized him as the guy that used to beg for money, and
they were filled with awe.
