I thought the reading was really interesting in thinking about the Jewish people before Jesus, and how loving others was not the biggest commandment. Yet their lack of love was eventually what led them to crucify Jesus, because they were trying so hard to be righteous. But I guess looking at it practically they really were doing everything they could to get around the laws, so they really weren't following them that well.
