“Narrative
Expressions” – Donald Miller
I thought
it was really insightful to look at my life like a story. A story has elements
in it that make it fun, such as heroes, values, morals, etc. And these same
elements should be in my own life if it’s going to be meaningful and
interesting. Like the speaker said, I often feel like my story lacks substance,
or that it simply ends prematurely.
What types of stories do I identify
with? How am I suffocating my own story by copying other bad stories? Am I
merely living out a simple, boring formula?
I, as the protagonist of my story,
need to have a dream and a vision. If I don’t fulfill my destiny, it hurts
everyone else. The reason that my life doesn’t seem to make sense could be that
I’m either reading the wrong script or I’m trying to play a different role. God
is a storyteller. Story is “his map of life’s hidden order.” We make sense of
our lives when we see the whole real story.
Every story has conflict. Learn to
embrace conflict.
