Week 6 | Devotional | Alex

I have been going through the book of Daniel and it has been really speaking to me. I think the ways that he stands up to authority to honor God is really awe inspiring. After doing all the reading I have really been realizing that he was able to do those things through submitting to God as the highest authority. Especially with interpreting the dreams that is all according to god and not to him at all. It's also really cool looking at the story of his friends when they were thrown into the furnace. They called upon God to do something utterly supernatural. There was no way they could be saved except by God and yet they had resounding faith, I look to them with awe as well as I see that their faith fueled them and their dependency on God ruled their lives. I think it is significant too that at the end of Daniel God reveals the end times to him but when he asked to understand more he was greeted with a response that the information he wanted was sealed up with the end and not for him to know. The other day I was talking with a homeless man in Santa Ana about these very passages in Daniel, but it was before I had gotten to them and read them, and he was telling me that they are what are referred to at the end of Matthew, and now that I have read them I want to go look into matthew, I think he said somewhere in the 20s, maybe 28, and I want to see how it parallels. I feel like for the first time God has given me an inquisitive spirit for the word and I'm really excited to learn, Amen to that.
