The first line that stuck out to me was that we’re managers
of what God had entrusted us with. This means we have to do more than just set
aside 10% to put into the offering basket every week. We actually have to take
care of what we were given and keep careful watch over it. This makes our role
a much more active one. Tithing is a reflection of how we view and treat our money.
Another
lesson I learned was that it is impossible to please God without faith. God is
pleased when we trust only him and not look to other things to make us feel
secure. This is something that I’ve been dealing with constantly. I need to
realize that God alone is in control and he’s the only one that can fulfill all of my
needs.
Lastly, we
are told to give to our local church, where we worship and are nurtured and
fed. For me, this reinforces the importance of being a part of a local church. It
is through the local church that God establishes his authority in our lives and
carries out his will. There is something not right in your spiritual life if you're not giving your tithe to a local church. We need to take care of our house and be make sure that
it has everything it needs to function.
