“Love Revolution” –

Jesus’s death is seen again through the perspective of covenant. He had to die in order for the old covenant to become void so that God could offer us a new covenant. So then the words that Jesus spoke at the Passover meal the night before his death take on a higher significance. He says, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” He follows this statement by giving his disciples the New Command to “love one another.” Is there a connection between the New Covenant and the New Command, which were given on the same night? The New Commandment, to love one another, is an element of the New Covenant that often gets neglected. The prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah had long been prophesying about how God will “teach” and “put His law” in our hearts and minds. Jesus also made it clear that our love for one another would be the mark of authenticity for those who follow him. But unlike the old commandment that God wrote on slabs of stone, this time He was writing it on our hearts. There is no more condemnation or confusion. We can now have “empowerment that comes through the simplicity of the new.”
